Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering,
for He who promised is faithful.
– Hebrews 10:23
It is repeated in Hebrews to “hold fast” ( Hebrews 3:14, 4:14, 10:23) to our confidence and confession in Christ. This whole concept of salvation is much deeper than “ask Jesus into your heart.” It’s simple enough for a child to understand, but yet so profound to keep an old Chris-tian astonished. Salvation is about repenting, believing, confessing, speaking, and doing. It’s about what’s in your head, heart, hands, and your mouth. We who are saved have been justified once and for all, but that justification will be proven by our sanctification which lasts our entire earthly life. It is an internal struggle between the Ho-ly Spirit and our own selfish desires. This war requires our attention and effort. We cannot expect to win this war by being couch potato Christians. As we realize the enormity of this struggle we are to hold fast. Hold fast to Jesus’ power and promises. Don’t lose hope. Don’t lessen your efforts. Hold fast. If you don’t, know that you’ll feel the effects of a life separated from our good and loving Father. If you do, know that you will enter God’s rest.
